A Star Fox remake is heading to Switch 2 on June 25

Nintendo has announced a remake of the classic Star Fox game, set to release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25. The updated version features reimagined visuals, redesigned characters, and a cinematic presentation with new cutscenes and full voice acting. Players can expect a faithful recreation of the original game’s stages and story, enhanced with fresh gameplay modes and online multiplayer options. The remake includes a campaign mode with three difficulty levels—easy, normal, and an unlockable expert mode—alongside a challenge mode introducing new objectives. A notable addition is the four-on-four battle mode, which offers three distinct arenas: a control-point game on Corneria, a crystal-collection challenge on Fichina, and a fetch quest against space pirates in Sector Y. Players can engage in private matches or join open queues, with support for both local and online GameShare functionality. Star Fox also supports local cooperative play throughout the campaign, allowing one player to pilot while another handles the gunner role. The game is compatible with the revamped N64 controller and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, enhancing the nostalgic experience. Additionally, Switch 2 users can utilize interactive avatars of the main crew members in GameChat, adding a new social dimension to multiplayer sessions. The announcement was accompanied by a gameplay preview showcasing the iconic Arwing’s maneuvers and the Blue-Marine submersible in action. The prologue introduced familiar characters, including Fox’s father James McCloud and antagonist Pigma, highlighting the game’s blend of classic elements with modern enhancements.
