Haley Stevens and progressive Dr. Abdul El-Sayed are locked in a high-stakes battle in Michigan to face Republican Rep. Mike Rogers in November’s general election in an open seat being vacated . The general election race could decide which party controls the Senate in the next Congress. In the governor's race, ABC News projects Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Republican Rep. John James will win their respective primaries and will face off in November. James would be the state's first elected Black Republican governor in history. In Michigan's 7th Congressional District, ABC News projects progressive activist and Democratic Socialists of America member William Lawrence will defeat two more moderate candidates to be the Democratic nominee to take on first-term Republican incumbent Rep. Wesley Bell will beat former Rep. Cori Bush, who Bell unseated two years ago. Bell was boosted -Israel groups. The United Democracy Project, a super PAC affiliated with pro-Israel group American Israel Public Affairs Committee, spent millions opposing Bush in both the 2024 and 2026 primaries. Bush aimed to capitalize on voter sentiment souring on Israel over its actions during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, as well as a wave of success -incumbents campaigns. In Missouri’s newly redistricted 5th District, Republican state Sen. Rick Brattin will face incumbent Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver in November, ABC News projects. Cleaver, who has represented the district since 2005, was unopposed in the Democratic primary but faces an uphill battle in the general election after the state legislature redrew the district last year to lean Republican. National Republicans view the district as a top target for flipping.
