Kyle Busch, two-time Nascar champion, dies aged 41
Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has died at the age of 41 after being hospitalized with a severe illness, NASCAR announced. Busch’s family had earlier revealed his hospitalization, which forced him to withdraw from a scheduled race in Charlotte, North Carolina. No cause of death has been disclosed. The Las Vegas native was a prominent figure in the sport, holding the record for the most wins across NASCAR’s three national series with 232 victories. Busch’s health struggles became publicly apparent during a NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen on May 10, where he requested medical assistance due to a sinus cold worsened by the physical demands of the track. Despite his condition, he finished eighth in that race. At the time of his death, Busch was ranked 24th in the Cup Series standings for the season, having secured two top-10 finishes in 12 races. Just days before his passing, he won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Ecosave 200 at Dover Motor Speedway. A joint statement from the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing, and NASCAR described Busch as a once-in-a-generation talent and a future Hall of Famer. They highlighted his fierce competitiveness, passion, and significant contributions to the sport, including mentoring younger drivers as a team owner in the Truck Series. Busch’s career spanned over two decades, during which he won championships in 2015 and 2019 and earned a devoted fan base known as the “Rowdy Nation.” His death marks a profound loss for the NASCAR community and motorsports at large.
