Opera Adds Browser Connector Feature to Integrate AI Chatbots Into Browsers

Opera has introduced a new feature called Browser Connector that allows users to integrate multiple AI chatbots directly into their browsing sessions. Available on Opera One and Opera GX browsers, this free tool supports AI models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude, enabling users to access AI assistance while actively browsing. The integration is powered by the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard designed to create secure, two-way connections between AI models, external data sources, and tools like search engines. The Browser Connector feature enhances the browsing experience by allowing AI chatbots to provide real-time context based on open tabs and active content. This means users can receive more relevant and dynamic AI responses tailored to their current online activities. Mohamed Salah, Opera’s senior director of product, emphasized that the feature frees users from being locked into a single company’s AI ecosystem, offering flexibility to combine the best AI tools for their specific needs.
