Storm Amy: man dies in Ireland as new weather warning issued for UK
A man died in a weather-related incident in Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland, as Storm Amy brought severe conditions across the UK and Ireland. The Met Office issued a yellow wind warning covering the entire UK, with an amber warning for damaging winds in northern Scotland until 9pm. Gusts exceeding 100mph were recorded in exposed areas, causing widespread disruption. Storm Amy led to power outages affecting around 42,000 homes, flooding on the M77 in Kilmarnock, and closures of roads, railways, and ferry services. In London, all eight royal parks, including Hyde Park and Richmond Park, were closed due to strong winds, with delayed reopening planned after safety inspections. Scotland faces further challenges with a new amber warning for damaging winds and widespread yellow warnings for rain and wind. The storm set a new UK October record for low pressure at 947.9 hPa. Additional travel disruptions and infrastructure damage, including a building collapse in Glasgow, were reported amid ongoing recovery efforts.
