Taoiseach to highlight global uncertainty in UN address

It is understood Mr Martin will speak about the need to make the multilateral system stronger and highlight conflicts around the world, including in the Middle East, Ukraine and Sudan. His speech is scheduled for around 8pm local time (1am tomorrow Irish time), on the final day of his trip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas are also scheduled to speak today. Mr Martin has attended a series of political and cultural events during his three-day visit to New York. He participated in a meeting about the Gaza peace plan with the leaders of the UK, France and Canada. The Taoiseach also briefly met with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UNGA, at the annual host country reception, on Tuesday. Yesterday, he met with New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at the New York Irish Centre in Queens. Minister for Foreign Affairs Helen McEntee, who is also in New York for the UNGA, is due to speak at the annual meeting of the Informal Ministerial Network for the International Criminal Court today. She is also expected to deliver a national statement at a meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two State Solution and will deliver remarks at a high-level ministerial meeting on ensuring accountability for Ukraine.
