Arson attacks and shooting linked with organised crime, SA police say

They charged a Christies Beach man with arson over the fire in February and then a Christie Downs man in March and a third, also from Christie Downs, in June. Detective Superintendent Campbell Hill leads SA Police's Serious and Organised Crime Branch. (ABC News: Madina Jaffari) Police said a car wash on Unley Road at Malvern was broken into on January 1 and a fuel can was left inside, and then a fire was lit inside on January 7, causing extensive damage. Weeks later, on March 18, the business was destroyed by a fire, with the damage bill estimated at $500,000. The drive- 2:30am on February 26, police said, and involved a shotgun being fired outside a house. Police said the house was occupied at the time but no-one inside was injured. They have released a picture of a gun they believe may be linked to the crimes. A photograph of a gun that police say they uncovered while investigating the Rostrevor shooting. (Supplied: SA Police) Superintendent Hill said while the attacks were not random, there was "always risk with these sorts of offences". "In terms of ongoing risk in relation to the arsons, there's little risk we see in relation to that," he said. "The shooting, however, is a completely different concern in itself." While a number of Adelaide tobacco businesses have been targeted , Superintendent Hill said he was "very confident" these fires and the shooting were not linked to those crimes. He urged anyone with information on any of the crimes to contact Crime Stoppers.
